Were these women really bloodthirsty?

'Perhaps they were just using knitting as a distraction from the horrors surrounding them – knitting is sometimes used today as a method to treat depression and anxiety in people.

The revolutionaries were living in poverty and this would certainly have been detrimental to their psychological well-being.

Perhaps the tricoteuses were merely trying to keep their mental health in check.' Purl up and dye

  1. I know that I use "knitting as a distraction from the horrors surrounding" me....I keep some bright pink and orange yarn in a camphor-wood carved yarn-bowl on my desk at work. The yarn has started to become a pair of socks, knit on 2.25mm needles, and the colours are pooling in a most-pleasing way - I can't remember the last time I actually knitted on these socks, but just seeing them there every day makes me calm... :)
